Welcome to BEDI
Buganda Environment Development Initiative (BEDI) is a youthful organization established in 2013 with an emphasis on environmental conservation and protection and sensitizing people on issues of climate change.
We promote family health including prevention of HIV/STI prevention and TB management, as well as family support for affected families and individuals. In addition, we promote proper environment use, better practices in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) , sustained agriculture and youth livelihoods.Gender equity / women empowerment as well as child protection are integral in our programmes. BEDI tackles human rights abuse, domestic violence and child protection. Youth and women especially those people facing needy situations are our primary target group.
Why We Exist
Uganda’s environmental sector has faced negative effects over the years. With population growth rate increasing rapidly over the years, environmental degradation has also set in. A human development report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the theme Sustainability and Equity: stating a Better Future for All, warns that development in the world’s poorest countries could be halted or even reversed by the mid-century unless bold steps are taken immediately to slow climate change and prevent further environmental damage.
